Tasked with improving the BBC’s engagement with younger audiences I led a research project to better understand their needs.
Rather than another section of the BBC News site, the result was a daily, highly visual infographic that was posted on various social media channels. The goal was to go to our audience, rather than expect them to come to us, and to provide relevant information in a fun way that was not patronising.
I produced a bespoke visual style guide that other designers could reuse as well as a more simplified version that journalists could edit and publish themselves. #GoFigure is still running today and has on average significantly higher engagement than any other social media BBC News content.
